about

The melody and opening two lines of this tune date back to when I was sixteen. The original chorus had the line '...I'm only 16 and lost in a world I can't see..." Very naive to say the least! After all this time I have filled in the details with words and sentiments I couldn't have appropriated back then.

lyrics

In my house on the hill
I can see the whole world from a distance
I can go there alone and escape all my woes in an instant
I can dance and can sing rhyme recite lines like a poet
Record every verse and realise my Wordsworth and not know it

Count every grain of the sand of the sea
Name every star in the burst galaxy
Watching as worlds explode into view
Think often of you lover of my life

In my house on the hill
I can see the whole world in a moment
I watch ignorance shrill rage bored unfulfilled in its foment
I hear messages left unpondered bereft in torment
Cast over the side where complexity slides in a torrent

Count every grain of the sand of the sea
Name every star in the burst galaxy
Watching as worlds explode into view
Think often of you lover of my life

From my house on the hill
I can see a light shine in the distance
Gaze over the earth entropy of my birth and not miss it
Die knowing more than vanities war that's illicit
Yet look not back upon with an ache or a song and remiss it

Count every grain of the sand of the sea
Name every star in the burst galaxy
Watching as worlds explode into view
Think often of you lover of my life
