about

Originally inspired by a trip to East Timor in 2013, the theme of struggle is now more relevant than ever. With so many threatened by the global pandemic, health wise or economically, most of the world is in a fight for survival. A rock vibe with spoken word/rap verses. With Santana inspired guitar licks.

lyrics

The best days were the days of struggle
Up to our necks in trouble
Never were we more fully alive
The victory was won so sweetly
When we gave ourselves completely
Nothing could have weakened our resolve

If yesterday you could have seen
Where you'd be tomorrow
Would you even start the journey?
The road will lead you places
You would never choose to go
For seemingly it takes you
Far from your quarry
To a cache of treasure,
You may not recognise
But in that moment your faith is being tested
To see if it will bridge the chasms floor
For every soldier proven in the fire
To them a crown of glory
Surely does await

Ch.

When I look back in wonder
At where the road has brought me
Regret is not the lover
Who shall be my muse
For in the heart of darkness
The recess of your shadow
Disappointment will be blinded by the light
For destiny will not forsake me
Calamity not overtake me
For every soldier fallen in the battle
Deserted disbelieving
To them our duty
Is to carry on
Carry on

Ch.
The best days were the days of struggle
Up to our necks in trouble
Never were we more fully alive
The victory was won so sweetly
When we gave ourselves completely
Nothing could have weakened our resolve

We went all the way
All the way from sorrow
All for a bright tomorrow
All the way

And in the witness cloud
They testify of virtue
Of the souls who shine
In the shadow of the valley
And the sequel will be wonderful
Not hurtful not shameful
For they seek not their own but the glory of others
To carry the weight of sisters and brothers
To forgive but not condone
Anonymous unknown
And my brother says:
Who will bear this burden?
And I say what burden?
I am my brothers keeper
